The UBC Hospital is operated by Vancouver Coastal Health. More information about Vancouver Coastal Health sustainability initiatives can be found online at: www.bcgreencare.ca.
In 2014, UBC’s SEEDS (Social Ecological Economic Development Studies) Sustainability Program engaged the UBC Hospital in a Farm to Campus Health Care project to examine the possibility of a farm to healthcare pilot project between the UBC Farm and the UBC Hospital. This project is part of a three year institutional local food procurement project, Scaling Up, which aims to increase the viability of the local food sector by providing farmers, distributors, institutions, and policy maker with the tools, information, and training necessary to create and sustain successful farm-to-institution food procurement partnerships. This is the first of its kind farm to healthcare project in British Columbia.
