As per Supply Management's Vendor Code of Conduct, the goal is to ensure safe and healthy workplaces for the people who manufacture products for UBC, where human and civil rights conditions are in compliance with the core labour conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The UBC Bookstore has also developed a No Sweat Policy, which specifies that clothing vendors supplying products to the Bookstore are expected to comply with guidelines consistent with those established by the Fair Labour Practices Association, International Labour Organization, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. UBC also received Fair Trade Campus certification in April 2011, which commits UBC to buy Fair Trade coffee, tea, chocolate and tropical fruit from producers who guarantee higher social, environmental and pay standards for farmers and workers.
