UBC offers a variety of cultural competence trainings and activities related to equity and diversity that are available to all employees. Key trainings are offered through the Equity Office, Access and Diversity, the Centre for Intercultural Communication, the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology, and the Positive Space campaign. EQUITY OFFICE WORKSHOPS http://equity.ubc.ca/education/workshop-descriptions-upcoming-sessions/ The Equity Office offers standard and tailored workshops to students, staff and faculty on issues of discrimination, harassment, inclusivity, anti-racism, diversity, and anti-homophobia to help ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment at UBC. Sessions are facilitated by experienced equity advisors and incorporate group exercises, case studies and discussion. ACCESS AND DIVERSITY PROGRAMMING http://www.students.ubc.ca/access/index.cfm Access and Diversity offers a wide range of diversity and disability awareness programming designed to foster the capacity of all faculty and staff to contribute to the creation of welcoming and inclusive learning, living and working environments for our diverse student population. Workshops are facilitated by experienced staff and are tailored to meet the needs of the audience. CENTRE FOR INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION (CIC) http://cic.cstudies.ubc.ca/ The Centre for Intercultural Communication (CIC) offers programs and services to develop intercultural awareness, understanding and skills for today’s increasingly global academic and business environments. With over 20 years of experience, the CIC's highly experienced staff have designed and delivered leading-edge programs and services to help people work more effectively in diverse cultural settings, internationally and domestically. The CIC offers courses such as 'Engaging Diversity in the Workplace' and a 'Certificate in Intercultural Studies', which can help UBC employees develop intercultural skills for on the job, in the classroom or away from home. CENTRE FOR TEACHING, LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY (CTLT) http://ctlt.ubc.ca/programs/all-our-programs/equity-diversity-and-intercultural-understanding/ The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) offers opportunities and resources to enhance teaching and learning on the issues of diversity, equity and intercultural understanding at UBC and beyond. CTLT Living Lab develops and performs short interactive theatre sketches that involve members of the UBC community in conversations about the complexities and challenges that arise in diverse and multicultural teaching and learning environments. Global Citizenship offers a variety of programs, workshops, and resources to assist the UBC teaching community in meeting our goals of fostering global citizenship. POSITIVE SPACE CAMPAIGN http://positivespace.ubc.ca/ The Positive Space Campaign is an initiative intended to help make UBC more receptive to and welcoming of its lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, questioning, transgender, transsexual, gender variant, two-spirit and intersex (LGBQTTI) communities, individuals and issues of sexual and gender diversity on campus. All UBC students, staff and faculty are welcome to participate in Positive Space campaign workshops.
