A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contribute to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:
All new institutional buildings on campus must achieve a minimum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold or equivalent rating, which includes potential credits for material reuse and waste diversion. UBC has made 75% construction waste diversion mandatory for all institutional buildings. In addition, all new UTown@UBC residential buildings must meet UBC’s stringent Residential Environmental Assessment Program (REAP) guidelines that require mandatory diversion of 75% of construction waste.
