A brief description of the vegan dining program:
Food Services' residence dining program offers a vegan hot entrée option at each meal. One soup choice per day is vegan and complete protein options, such as nuts, legumes, and grains are available on the salad bars. AMS Food and Beverage Department launched A Lighter Footprint menu line called LOV (Local, Organic, and Vegan) in 2008 to raise awareness of the impact of everyday food choices and to help customers make more informed purchasing choices. This project was a result of a collaboration between the AMS, the AGSCI 450 teaching team and students, the UBC food system project coordinator, and the UBC sustainability office SEEDS Program manager. Vegan menu offerings are increasing in most AMS outlets with an additional fair trade component being developed. Fair trade beer, fruit juices and some grains/rices are being considered.
