A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
The Social Innovation Hub is a multidisciplinary physical and online space where University of Arkansas students have the opportunity to learn about pressing social and environmental problems, and offer a solution inspired by their own interests, skills and imagination. The Hub creates the conditions for student initiatives to flourish and for students to feel empowered as active change makers, under the leadership of a peer support structure and a network of experts, activists and community leaders.
The Social Innovation Hub is an attempt to expand experiential learning and pedagogical innovation initiatives. It creates new opportunities to engage students, particularly students new to the UA, and it provides new mechanisms for high school student engagement through complementary efforts such as the Fleischer Scholars initiative. The Hub is an opportunity for students to guide and shape their own learning experience, as opposed to just being shaped by it.
The plan is to engage students by facilitating the process through which our students can increase their awareness, enhance their empathy, channel their solidarity and move into action.
