A brief description of the sustainability trainings and professional development opportunities available to staff :
There are many campus sponsored opportunities available for U of A faculty and staff. Two courses were offered in 2010: Sustainability and Sustainability at Home - Save Energy and Money! The Sustainability session defined sustainability, discussed approaches for measuring sustainability, and discussed how companies move from conventional to sustainable practices. The Sustainability at Home session educates employees on how to monitor home consumption of gas, electricity and water so they can identify changes to save energy and money. Plus, the U of A Applied Sustainability Center has a energy challenge called "Energy Resolution 2011" available on-line at www.ecologicalcommunities.org
The campus culture supports alternative transportation options, recycling of white paper/ cans/ and plastic containers, and energy and water conservation measures on campus.
