Institution type:
Institutional control:
A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
Established in 1885 as Arizona's first university, the University of Arizona (Arizona) is a global leader for the value of its education, its research initiatives, and the employability of its graduates. The University of Arizona is a public university where teaching, research, service, and innovation merge to improve lives in the state and beyond. Arizona is the only school in the state with a medical school and is one of the few schools in the nation with two medical schools. Arizona consistently produces graduates who are real-world ready to take on the world's biggest challenges.
The University's institutional boundary is defined as its main campus, located centrally in Tucson, Arizona. The main campus is a contiguous operational control boundary, consistent with most utility systems data. Operational control is defined as the University's substantial authority to make improvements to the sustainability impacts of the facility including the energy and water efficiency, the waste generation and disposition, and the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in landscaping.
Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? | Included? | |
Agricultural school | Yes | Yes |
Medical school | Yes | Yes |
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) | Yes | Yes |
Museum | Yes | Yes |
Satellite campus | Yes | No |
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | Yes | No |
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | Yes | No |
Hospital | No | No |
The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
For this submission, the boundary excludes properties not connected to the University's central systems on the main campus in Tucson, Arizona. Aspects of the University NOT included in the institutional boundary include the Arizona Tech Parks at Rita Road and the Bridges, Tumamoc Hill, and other, smaller properties owned by the University but not connected to central utility systems.
Other properties under the University's operational control beyond Tucson that were also excluded include the Phoenix Bioscience Core in Phoenix, Arizona, the College of Applied Science & Technology (CAST) in Sierra Vista, Arizona, the College of Veterinary Medicine in Oro Valley, Arizona, Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Arizona, and all properties associated with the University Experiment Stations and Agricultural Centers. These properties were excluded due to a lack of readily available/accessible data.
