1st campaign

Name of the campaign:
Bin It To Win It

A brief description of the campaign:

UArizona participates in Bin It To Win It (formerly Recyclemania) as a whole university but also holds a Recycle Mania competition for the residence halls. During the ten week program, the University promotes recycling in the Student Union, Facilities Management, and Housing & Residential Life through greater advertising and awareness campaigns. Facilities are encouraged to use less materials and power during this period.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

The program has brought awareness to the importance of waste sorting and recycling, and taught students about recycling guidelines. One tactic that has been used to gain participation is giving students a recycling "quiz" in exchange for a gift card raffle. This is another way to engage students in learning about general recycling and Tucson/university specific rules.

2nd campaign

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Less is More

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

With Less is More, dorms will compete head-to-head to see who can reduce their energy and water use the most. Staff will share conservation tips while students sign an online pledge to conserve. The dorms with the biggest utility savings and most pledges win.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The program provides education materials and signage to indicate ways students can choose to use less electricity and water, while decreasing their impact on the environment. Tips include how to use less water when showering, doing laundry, using the kitchen and bathroom, as well as tips to use less energy in similar and other daily activities. Students are also encouraged to submit a pledge to commit with the program to foster accountability (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfMBR3GEX1Nr0Zp_U6RAuarNbkhdgO1PIr5D9Tf0e84htJlTg/viewform). Finally, in addition to water and energy savings, the program provides cash incentives for students to encourage their journey.  At the end, the dorms with the biggest utility savings and the most pledges will win.
