The university defined a baseline year for our 2017 submission as the average of the three years previous to the performance year. The same baseline has been used for this submission.

ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) department has been adjusting its offerings in response to a significant change to the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act that occurred on June 1, 2018. High priority initiatives have focused on supervisory and worker EHS eLearning, violence and workplace harassment prevention, safety committee expansion and support, and risk-based, data driven inspection processes.

FACILITIES & OPERATIONS CONTRACTOR SAFETY

Contractors who would like to be eligible to work for Facilities & Operations (F&O) at the University of Alberta must meet health and safety pre-qualification requirements managed through a digital contractor management system. Before they are eligible to work for F&O at the University of Alberta, contractors are required to:

- Build a profile in in the online system
- Complete a safety pre-qualification questionnaire
- Submit supporting health and safety related documentation (including Workers' Compensation Board clearance letter and premium rate statement, health and safety manual, certificate of insurance) for review
- Attend the contractor safety orientation at the Facilities and Operations Health and Safety office
