Total energy consumption (all sources, excluding transportation fuels), performance year :
2,505,420.50 MMBtu

Option 1

Total clean and renewable electricity generated on site during the performance year and for which the institution retains or has retired the associated environmental attributes:
648.28 MMBtu

None
A brief description of on-site renewable electricity generating devices :
The university has an ever-growing capacity for renewable energy. Currently, it is sitting at ~750kW. The university plans to continue incorporation of renewable energy generation, including solar photovoltaic, solar thermal heating and potentially some geo-thermal into our $35-million, seven-year Next Generation Energy Management Program. The following renewable energy projects are under way: Solar PV Projects - Completed - Medical Isotope and Cyclotron Facility (MICF): 23 kW building-integrated solar PV. - Jeanne and peter Lougheed performing Arts Centre: 122 kW building-integrated solar PV. Largest building-integrated solar PV installation in Canada to date. - Physical Activity and Wellness (PAW) Centre: 23 kW solar PV. - Agriculture/Forestry Solarium: 20 kW integrated solar PV in the solarium exterior glazing. Solar PV Projects - In Progress - R. E. Phillips: 15 kW solar PV under construction; est. summer 2017. - Chemical and Materials Engineering Building (CMEB): potential 60 kW solar PV project under construction; est. fall 2017. - ECERF/ETLC: potential 50 kW solar PV under construction; est. fall 2017. - Donadeo Innovation Centre for Engineering (DICE): potential 60 kW solar PV project under construction; est. summer 2017. - Universiade Pavilion: TBD (50-250 kW) integrated solar PV in the building cladding under design. - Augustana Forum: 75 kW roof mounted solar PV under design. - East Campus Village Infill: 75 kW roof mounted solar PV under design. - Miquelon Lake Research Station: 5 kW roof mounted solar PV under design. Other examples of solar-power use on across UAlberta’s campuses include: - 10 solar-powered electric grounds carts used by the Buildings and Grounds Services staff on North Campus - Solar-powered trash compactors in high waste volume locations - 45 solar-powered parking dispensers installed in a number of surface lots and short term parking lots on North and South Campus - One solar powered charging station/picnic table at Augustana Campus - 3 solar powered street lights at Augustana Campus with battery storage. - 2 solar powered Soofa charging stations on North campus with battery storage donated by the Friends of the University of Alberta Society. - Solar-powered pedestrian crossing signs in a high pedestrian traffic area on North Campus. The signs are equipped with sensors designed to recognize a moving vehicle up to 40 feet away and light up to warn the vehicle it is entering a high pedestrian traffic site.

Option 2

Non-electric renewable energy generated on-site, performance year:
121.22 MMBtu

None
A brief description of on-site renewable non-electric energy devices:
NORTH CAMPUS http://sustainability.ualberta.ca/CampusInitiatives/Buildings/Buildings/PAW.aspx In 2015, a 133 kW array of solar-thermal panels was installed on the Physical Activity and Wellness (PAW) Centre. The energy the panels produce is used for domestic water heating within the building and contributes to heating the east swimming pool. AUGUSTANA CAMPUS http://www.augustana.ualberta.ca/offices/sustainability/programs/energy.html In May 2010, Augustana Campus installed 10 solar-thermal panels on the roof of Convocation Centre. The energy produced is used to relieve the water-heating requirements of the campus gym and cafeteria.

Option 3

Total clean and renewable electricity generated by off-site projects that the institution catalyzed and for which the institution retains or has retired the associated environmental attributes, performance year:
0 MMBtu

None
A brief description of off-site, institution-catalyzed, renewable electricity generating devices:
N/A

Option 4

Total third-party certified RECs, GOs and/or similar renewable energy products (including renewable electricity purchased through a utility-provided certified green power option) purchased during the performance year:
0 MMBtu

A brief description of the RECs, GOs and/or similar renewable energy products, including contract timeframes:
N/A
