O+M Certified Space

Building space must be certified under a rating system focusing on the operations and maintenance of existing buildings (e.g. LEED O+M) to count as certified space for this credit. Sustainability in new construction and major renovation projects (e.g. LEED BD+C certification) is covered in the Building Design and Construction credit.

Floor area of building space that is certified at each level under a green building rating system for the operations and maintenance of existing buildings used by an Established Green Building Council:
Certified Floor Area
LEED O+M Platinum or the highest achievable level under another GBC rating system 0 Square meters
LEED O+M Gold or the 2nd highest level under another 4- or 5-tier GBC rating system 0 Square meters
Certified at mid-level under a 3- or 5-tier GBC rating system (e.g. BREEAM-In Use, CASBEE for Existing Buildings, DGNB, Green Star Performance) 0 Square meters
LEED O+M Silver or at a step above minimum level under another 4 -or 5–tier GBC rating system 0 Square meters
LEED O+M Certified or certified at minimum level under another GBC rating system 0 Square meters

Floor area of building space that is certified under a non-GBC rating system for the operations and maintenance of existing buildings, e.g. BOMA BESt, Green Globes CIEB:
455,952 Square meters

Percentage of building space certified under a green building rating system for the operations and maintenance of existing buildings:
34.33

If reporting certified space, provide:

A copy or the green cleaning policy:
A brief description of how green cleaning is incorporated into cleaning contracts:
CLEANING FOR A HEALTHY U http://sustainability.ualberta.ca/CampusInitiatives/Buildings/PoliciesPrograms/GreenCleaning.aspx In 2008, the University of Alberta developed green cleaning guidelines within the Cleaning for a Healthy U program. The program aims to reduce volatile organic compounds and airborne particulates in the indoor environment, creating healthier spaces for students, faculty and staff. Guidelines are updated on an ongoing basis as new equipment, products and techniques become available. All products used to clean university facilities must meet the program's criteria.

Energy Management and Benchmarking

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with an energy management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the energy management or benchmarking program:
ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM http://sustainability.ualberta.ca/CampusInitiatives/Energy/EnergyManagementPlan.aspx The University of Alberta has had a very successful energy management program in place since the mid-1970s. Over four decades, the university has avoided $353 million in utility costs while preventing over 2.5 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. Annual savings reached $16.9 million in the most recent year on record (2015-16). Energy Management and Sustainable Operations (EMSO) oversees the program, providing energy benchmarking and implementing energy efficiency and conservation measures.

Water Management and Benchmarking

100

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:
WATEGO: PROACTIVE WATER PROTECTION Watego is a campus-wide water stewardship program that invests in innovative water technologies, behaviour change and fixture upgrades. Water audits are under way to benchmark water use in buildings. Reduction goals and implementation plans will then be created on a building-by-building basis. Watego-branded messaging is being installed in washrooms with newly fitted low-flow fixtures. Watego is the first program of its kind in Alberta and as it grows, it aims to pave the way for other post-secondary institutions wishing to commit to a sustainable water future.
