The Green Gown Awards recognise exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the world. The Sustainability Professional Award is open to staff that have the remit for sustainability at a tertiary education institution. It recognises people who have worked hard at pushing boundaries and are doing exemplary work.

MacEwan University has an emerging sustainability program. The University of Alberta has shared program development tools with MacEwan University and have agreed to serve as peer reviewers on STARS sustainability reports.

Earth Hour Race was delivered in collaboration with MacEwan University and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Sustainability Awareness Week included activities that were jointly promoted on other campuses in the Edmonton community.
The Earth Hour Campus Challenge is hosted by the Office of Sustainability and engages about a dozen campuses across the province of Alberta each year.
