A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA INTERNATIONAL (UAI) http://www.international.ualberta.ca UAI provides many programs for Canadian and international students to become more culturally competent. These programs include study abroad programs, internships, orientation and academic success programming for international students, intercultural communication trainings, a Certificate in International Learning, International Week, and book launches, exhibitions, conferences, films and lectures on a variety of global and cultural issues. UAI also facilitates programming in International House, a residence of 154 Canadian and international students, to foster intercultural understanding. UAI provides scholarships and other funds to promote cultural competence. CENTRE FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION AND RESEARCH http://cgcer.wordpress.com The Faculty of Education is home to the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Research (CGCER), whose aim is to develop global citizens who have a set of knowledges, skills and attitudes that make it possible for them to be actively involved in local, national and global institutions and systems that directly or indirectly affect their lives. Through research, education and action, the CGCER heightens consciousness and understanding of issues of global citizenship education in order to contribute to the collective development of societies that provide basic social justice and human rights. AUGUSTANA ABORIGINAL STUDENT OFFICE http://www.augustana.ualberta.ca/offices/aso Augustana’s Aboriginal Students Office provides various services and culturally sensitive support to assist students on their educational journey in Camrose. It also seeks to improve Augustana’s overall awareness and sensitivity towards Aboriginal peoples, thereby enriching the intellectual and cultural life on campus. ABORIGINAL STUDENT SERVICES CENTRE (ASSC) http://www.aboriginalservices.ualberta.ca/ The Aboriginal Student Services Centre (ASSC) is committed to serving the Aboriginal community on campus. They provide various opportunities for students to connect with Aboriginal tradition and culture. CAREER TRAINING http://www.caps.ualberta.ca/lookingforwork/TheWORKbookLearningwithCAPSOnl.aspx The University of Alberta's Career and Placement Services (CAPS) offers "The WORKbook" an online, interactive learning tool that assists you in finding answers to your career-related questions. It provides all students with access to training related to workplace equity, newcomers to Canada and foreign-trained professionals.
