The Office of Safe Disclosure and Human Rights (OSDHR) has a mandate to create awareness of human rights and the various processes that are in place to resolve any human rights complaints raised by any staff, faculty members, students and post-doctoral fellows (PDFs). The office delivers training workshops and educational awareness campaigns to ensure human rights principles are integrated into daily campus life.
The Employment Equity Program supports UAlberta in meeting its commitment to fairness and merit in hiring and retention practices to achieve a diverse, respectful and inclusive working, teaching and research environment.
The Employment Equity Advisor offers coaching, consulting, and formal learning opportunities to recruit and retain qualified diverse candidates — including women, especially in non-traditional occupations, Aboriginal people, members of visible minorities, and persons with disabilities.
An important aspect of the Employment Equity Program at the University of Alberta is the opportunity for current employees to participate in outreach activities such as hosting Work Exposure Placements for members of the designated groups.
The identification and removal of barriers that prevent the full participation of faculty and staff once they are at UAlberta is also a key consideration in achieving equity in employment. In addition to workshops and information sessions on valuing and managing diversity in the workplace that the Equity Program offers, assistance with individual equity concerns is provided by a number of units across the institution such as:

Employment Equity Census Data:
Since the early 1990s, the Employment Equity Program administers the distribution of the Employment Equity Census Questionnaire to all new continuing, operating funded employees to identify the representation of the designated groups as determined by the Employment Equity Act (women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal people, and persons with disabilities). The data gathered from the surveys is used to develop statistical reports on the composition of the University’s workforce as one way to report on the University’s progress in achieving equity in employment. More information on the Employment Equity Census Data can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions online in the links provided.
