Does the institution have incentives or programs to encourage employees to live close to campus?:
Yes

None
A brief description of the incentives or programs:
Faculty members can negotiate to receive interest free loans for housing at the time of hiring (loans are disbursed at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty). Homes closer to campus are more expensive, so the interest free loans make it more affordable for faculty to buy a home within walking, biking or transit distance to campus. In addition, UAlberta has a faculty-in-residence program which includes 3 professors living in residence on North Campus. These faculty become part of the residence community and work to achieve the following goals: 1. To encourage students to become more comfortable approaching and communicating with professors generally. 2. To enrich the learning environment in residence through academically oriented programming. 3. To provide students with support through academic challenges. We currently have three faculty living in campus housing in each of the following locations: Lister, Graduate Residence, and East Campus Village.
