A brief description of the plan:
The Bicycle Plan is a part of the University’s Long Range Development Plan (LRDP, 2002). The LRDP recognizes bicycles as valid means of transportation and intra-campus circulation tools. The LRDP includes such things as bicycle access to all parts of campus, connections from campus to the City of Edmonton’s bicycle networks, ample bicycle parking on campus, and restriction of vehicle access to campus. Other examples of initiatives that encourage bicycle use at the University of Alberta include: - Free bike checks, supported by the Sustain SU Bike Library mechanic, occur at several events throughout the year - Campus Security offers bicycle registration stickers and bicycle security tips - New vertical bicycle racks were installed at the East Campus Village Graduate Residence during its construction in 2010 - Several additional bicycle rack locations have been added to completed new construction projects in the last year, including at the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science, the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy , and the Saville Community Sports Centre (formerly the GO Centre)
