CLEANING FOR A HEALTHY U
http://www.facilities.ualberta.ca/Operations_Maintenance_FO/BGS/Building_Services_Cleaning.aspx
Our cleaning program “Cleaning for a Healthy U” has been formalized since 2008 and updated as equipment, products, or techniques are changed. Only products meeting the specifications outlined in the Cleaning for a Healthy U program are purchased for use in campus cleaning programs. Briefly, green cleaning chemicals purchased must meet the EcoLogo™ (formerly Environmental Choice Canada) and/or Green Seal™ (USA) regulations; some examples include GLANCE® Glass & Mirror cleaner, CREW® General Washroom Cleaner, and STRIDE® General Purpose Neutral Cleaner. Green cleaning equipment must meet Green Guard regulations (North America); some examples include Henry vacuums with HEPA-like filters, Tennant FaST®-equipped hallway cleaning machines, and microfiber clothes and mopping systems.
Some specialty products that are not certified are still in use, as well as floor finish stripper. The program requires that the reason for purchase must be justified prior to purchasing.
Also of note, total expenditures on cleaning chemicals has been reduced greatly in the past four years with the purchase of the Tennant hallway machines and the more extensive use of hand-held active ion technology.
