Yes

A brief description of the themed semester, year, or first-year experience:

Augustana Campus is a Liberal Arts Faculty of the University of Alberta situated in Camrose, AB. Each year a theme is chosen that will be the focus of community engagement and intellectual discussion over the course of the coming year. The first theme year took place in 2006/2007, with "Pandemics, Plagues, and Viruses;" this was followed by 2007/2008’s theme of "Boom & Bust," 2008/2009’s "From Field to Fork," 2009/2010’s "Dissent," and the 2011/2012 theme "Living with Our Selves: Conversations on Sex, Gender, and Sexuality."
In 2008/2009, the theme was "From Field to Fork," and was centred on food security and sustainability. Every student received a copy of Barbara Kinsolver’s book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. Events throughout the year included cooking classes with Augustana Campus celebrities (academic and non-academic staff) and workshops such as canning, cheese making, and baking. A Faculty Colloquium series took place, offering opportunities for the public and campus to learn more about food topics. A two-day conference, From Field to Fork to Findings: A Multidisciplinary Conference, took place in January 2009.
In 2009/2010, the theme was Dissent, wherein the critical role of dissent in political, religious, social, scientific and cultural realms was examined over the year. Events included a Faculty Colloquium series; topics ranged from Darwin’s dissent to dissent in the classroom. The year also featured a film screening series, with films such as Manufacturing Dissent shown and discussed.
