A brief description of the sustainability trainings and professional development opportunities available to staff :
Every year on staff appreciaton day UAF offers sustainability trainings for staff. Lately, in the past couple years, Michele Hebert, Director of the Office of Sustainability, has provided trainings about these subjects:
How to plant vegetable garden and methods to maximize the arctic sun and minimize the cold soil temperatures.
Training about composting with earthworms and allow you to compost household garbage indoors during Alaska's long winters, or during the summer.
Greening UAF work environment. Training for making your office a greener office and implementing sustainable practices in the workplace.
To reduce non-renewable ways for tranporting, the office of sustainability arranged training about alternative ways to move, especially about possibility to rent a bike for free from the UAF.
