Associated with the UAF Sustainability website is a page on sustainability research, highlighting some of the more active groups contributing to our knowledge base. UAF has an amazing amount of published sustainability research. We have taken some of the digging time away by providing a hub for the main publishing bodies within the UAF system within the publications subcategory. Anybody can make a recommendation for expansion of the current list.

UAF is in the process of integrating Lucid backed auditing system. This entails having a monitor in each audited buildings (~20, includes all dorms and major student hubs) in which anyone can view multiple pages of information, including energy and water usage. Also included are facts about the building; for the new buildings, this will include energy efficiency modules and strategies employed.

Nearly every food service station on campus has some signage depicting the sustainable efforts made by dining services, which is one faction of campus that is doing particularly well. Posters outline the steps made over the last 5 years including the recycling and composting of kitchen garbage, the removal of trays from the dining hall and food court, the movement toward local food and several other initiatives.

UAF features an extensive maintained trail system, maps of which are included in the link below. A complete campus map can be found here: http://www.uaf.edu/campusmap/campusmap-2011.pdf and it is linked various places on the UAF website. There are full color versions of the campus map posted around campus. UAF main is a walking campus, vehicles have restricted speeds and buildings are all approximately less than 15 minutes apart.

UAF has a comprehensive shuttle system for inter and intra-campus transportation of which there are shuttle trackers in all bus stops as well as flier handouts that are easy to find around campus. Biking has gone to new lengths of outreach with the Green Bikes program which will be hosting classes on all things cycle: http://www.uaf.edu/woodcenter/outdoor/green-bikes/ .

The view dorm room at UAF has been converted to a Green Dorm. There is a large poster in the room outlining what makes the dorm room green and what is currently on display in the room. There is also handout/flyers describing how to make your room green. Flyers are also given out during student orientation.

Geophysical Institute Public Outreach Program - The Education Outreach team brings geophysical research into K-12 classrooms throughout Alaska. The team develops K-12 curricular resources and teacher training programs based on research conducted at the Geophysical Institute. Many of our programs are designed to increase the educational achievement of Alaska Native Students.
