A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
The Office of Sustainability participates in new student orientation, called Howl Days by creating a booth in the fair that offers ideas on how sustainability is incorporated into the University's mission statement. Students are informed about all of the alternative transportation available on campus and what the campus recycles.
The students then take a recycling quiz to test their knowledge of what can be recycled on campus. The booth offers a pledge for the students to consider signing about using a re-usable water bottle instead of purchasing a plastic bottle from a vending machine in order to help reduce the amount of waste heading to our landfills.
The University has a fall Campus Kick-off which highlights groups and activities on campus that are sustainable in which the UAA Sustainability Club participates. The purpose is to bring students together for social events and projects to promote sustainability at UAA and in the local community.
