Director, Utilities & Sustainability
 Primary responsibilities are analyzing current energy usage, forecasting future usage, and developing and implementing an energy management plan in order to provide proper environmental conditions with cost effective energy utilization.
 Serves as the University's principal technical advisor regarding current and emerging power supply/delivery issues including energy supply, building energy management technologies, internal energy usage policies, and regulatory compliance.
 Utilities Management
o Develops and ensures the regular tracking and reporting of appropriate performance measures to support continuous improvement in energy management and conservation, including Key Performance Indicators, metrics, and dashboards.
o Strategizes and manages all electricity, natural gas, potable and irrigation water usage, costs, rates, and supplier partnerships.
o Researches and leverages all applicable TV A and HSV Utilities programs, rebates and incentives to lower UAH utility costs, lower project and asset costs and improve ROIs Manage utilities progressively and proactively to achieve substantial cost savings, sustainability accomplishments, and operational improvements.
o Reviews and analyzes utility data and reports regularly to identify issues, trends, and opportunities while measuring and benchmarking a significant operation expense.
o Assists in preparation of utility budgets by formulating utility use projections.
 Energy Conservation and Strategic Planning:
o Develops and implement an energy management strategy for the University.
o Works with the utility company to implement effective and innovative demand side management strategies, including energy efficiency, demand response, and peak load management.
o Leads the design and procurement of all F&O lighting, mechanical and electrical that has energy conservation potential including research, product trials, field verifications, cost analyses to improve our operations, lower maintenance cost, reduce failures and maximize life cycles.
o Participates in local and national professional associations related to utilities and energy management including, AEE, ASHRAE, IFMA, APPA, AASHE/STARS, and TVA customer focus groups.
 Sustainability
o Establishes and leads successful programs in solid waste management, recycling and landfill diversion including construction project waste.
o Chairman of University Sustainability Committee, ex officio. Provides guidance and direction for grassroots innovation on campus; to provide leadership in sustainability efforts and initiatives in respective departments across campus; to enhance collaboration and partnerships across campus; to provide feedback and strategic guidance to the UAH Sustainability Program.
o Delegate campus-wide sustainability efforts to this position including a volunteer ''Green team'' that represent all campus groups and helps the programs.
o Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates performances of employees under his/her direct supervision. Leads and supervises Sustainability Coordinator. Promotes and supports initiatives and clubs that raise awareness of or cultivate a more sustainable campus community through supervision of the Sustainability Coordinator.
o Possesses the knowledge and ability to provide leadership. Establish and maintain good communications and morale, conflict resolution, and satisfactory work ethics.
 Project Management
o Performs and/or oversees outsourcing facility energy audits; develop 5-year energy conservation plan with prioritized projects based on ROI' s and funding.
o Maintains project tracking tools, schedules, files and official records of major capital projects. Reviews plans for building construction and renovation projects.
o Manage consultants that performs commissioning and retro-commissioning of existing and new buildings to identify opportunities that can optimize mechanical and electrical systems to run at most efficient and dependable modes plus improve business continuity/reduce downtime. (i.e. data center, central plants).
o Assures all drawings and operations & maintenance documents are received, shared and filed appropriately
o Produce professional, executive-level verbal and written reports and presentations for use internally, externally, and for the Board of Trustees.
 Technical Assistance
o Makes recommendations regarding energy conservation and appropriate technology to ensure efficient energy and environmental compliance.
o Researches and interprets federal, state, and local energy and environmental regulations to ensure compliance with future regulations.

Student will be responsible for a campus-wide sustainability program by developing and monitoring

sustainable standards and policies in coordination with all campus departments.
Student will be responsible for updating the campus sustainability website and coordinating with
departments across campus in order to acquire data necessary to submit a report to the Sustainability,
Tracking, Assessment, & Rating System (STARS). The student will collect, analyze, & prepare data for
reporting in coordination with the Director of Utilities & Sustainability and Sustainability Committee.
