The UAB Office of Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is an enterprise-wide office led by a cabinet-level administrator. Mission: Our mission is to champion equity and inclusion and, in particular, to advocate for inclusive excellence and equity so that UAB students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners and friends can flourish and excel. Our mission is inspired by what we value, what we learn from research and what we teach and share with the world. It is our goal to motivate our people to take a courageous step to inspire equity and inclusive excellence throughout our state, nation, and the world, every day. The Office has a broad scope, including institutional assessment, campus and community engagement, diversity education, and support structures for underrepresented groups. https://www.uab.edu/dei/

All new staff and faculty must complete the Part 1: Awareness @UAB. We are rapidly requiring existing staff and faculty to also participate. Many departments also voluntarily participate in Parts 2-5 of the educational modules and send one staff member to train to become the diversity trainer for their respective units. UAB ODEI offers a variety of educational resources described on this page: https://www.uab.edu/dei/diversity-education UAB Student Affairs administers cultural competence trainings through First Year Experience (FYE) courses required for all freshmen. This program is administered through Student Affairs' Student Multicultural and Diversity Office. https://www.uab.edu/students/diversity/
