Yes

Name of the campaign:
MOVE OUT, Don't Throw Out

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:

MOVE OUT, Don't Throw Out is a campaign held every spring within all of the residence dorms to reduce waste and donate the materials to be reused by communities in need. During this campaign, each residence hall lobby has a cleaning supply table for students to turn in unwanted cleaning supplies, a food donation area, and a bin for household items and gently used clothing. Additionally, we place large, special event recycling bins in the lobby and outside the main doors for cardboard, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum, and paper. The campaign includes news articles in UAB communications several weeks prior to moveout, social media posts about the campaign, and direct emails to residents.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Reduced food, electronic, and clothing waste and diverted recyclable material from the landfill. The volumes of waste and frequency of move-out dumpster service for the residence halls have reduced year over year that Move Out Don't Throw Out has been offered.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Alternative Commute Week

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):

In September of 2017, UAB Sustainability and the Regional Planning Commission's CommuteSmart co-hosted an Alternative Commute Week at UAB to increase participation of UAB faculty, staff, and students in CommuteSmart. CommuteSmart program is offered to all faculty and staff, yet the participation number was lower than our institutional goal. The campaign included stories in UAB communications and social media posts. CommuteSmart and UAB Sustainability tabled in the Student Center and the lobby of the main Hospital dining facility over the 11 days.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

During the campaign's eleven days, we had more faculty register for CommuteSmart than in the best month of that entire fiscal year (163 versus 119).
