The MOU between the Sustainable Smart Cities Center and the City of Birmingham provides the springboard for individual projects to effectively move forward. Previous efforts have included securing the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge Grant, which addressed food deserts and included stakeholder meetings with underrepresented groups, and putting a hydrogen fuel cell bus into service with the Birmingham City bus system. It's a 5-year commitment with option to renew.
