A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
The Green Campus programme has been in existence in UCC for ten years. The programme is student-led, having been initiated by student members of the environmental society. At the heart of Green Campus is the committee, which is composed of students and staff. The committee sits regularly to plan campaigns and projects around the themes of Green Campus - waste, water, energy, transport, biodiversity and climate change. The programme involves seven steps including the linking of activities to the university curriculum and development of a green "charter". One example of a peer-to-peer outreach activity undertaken in the last year was when student members of the Green Campus committee ran a "What's your Water Footprint" event as part of Work Water Day. The students held a stand in the university student centre, with examples of everyday products that require vast amounts of water in their production. The students explained the idea of water footprint to their peers.

A brief description of how the student educators are selected:
Any student is welcome to join the Green Campus committee. The deputy president of the Student's Union automatically chairs the committee and a nominated representative from the environmental society co-chairs.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
The Green Campus committee is chaired by the chair of the Environmental Society and the Deputy President of the Student's Union. Both receive training in running projects and campaigns, the former through the societies guild and the latter through the Union of Students in Ireland. Many of the other members are members of societies, who will have received formal training from the guild. Other training is ad hoc and as required. With regard to specific environmental training, the seven steps of the Green Campus programme are based on the ISO140001 environmental management system. Green Campus Ireland has also provided national level training to student members of committees through Climate Ambassador Programme and Changemakers Summit. A central ethos of the Green Campus programme is that it is "student-led", therefore the focus and type of outreach activities undertaken varies from year to year as the committee membership turns over.

A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or faculty/staff coordination):
Administrative assistance is provided to the committee by the Buildings and Estates department. Ad hoc funding opportunities are available from the Buildings and Estates office, as opportunities are identified. From 2018/19 onwards a specific budget is being assigned up front to the Green Campus Committee from the start of term.
