A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
All new hires are electronically sent a New Employee Welcome packet which includes information on University Learning and Development, Wellness Programs, Community Activities, Child Care, etc. Included in the packet is the university schedule for transportation services, carpooling and bicycling information and a video overviewing UB's sustainability initiatives. There is not an opportunity for in-person presentation, so a video has been produced to convey university progress and priorities as they relate to sustainability. Employees are then invited to a zoom-based orientation program where all aspects and benefits of employment at the university are introduced and explained. UB Sustainability has contributed educational information to this orientation session, which infuses various sustainability information into the overview of UB. Another aspect of new employee orientation is a bus tour of the UB campuses, which provides an overview of not only the physical campus, but also highlights important cultural and community information. UB Sustainability has created a series of sustainability-related talking points for HR to infuse into the tour. As part of this curriculum, employees learn of UB’s commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and our goal to be climate neutral by 2030. New employees also learn of opportunities to participate in sustainability-based activities, groups and events. Employees are encouraged to practice sustainably responsible behaviors in their work and home environment and to contact UB Sustainability with suggestions and questions for improvements and contributions.
