Sustainability-supportive
A list of the institution level sustainability learning outcomes:
The university applies the SUNY general education directives. The SUNY Gen Ed framework includes twelve categories of knowledge, skills and competencies exposing students to different ways of knowing so that they can make reasoned judgements outside as well as inside their academic field, and enabling them to develop diverse perspectives and global understanding. These include two sustainability supportive categories: World History and Global Awareness and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice. The World History and Global Awareness includes the following objectives: "demonstrate an understanding of the structures, systems, and interrelationships among civilizations and cultures within historical and/or contemporary contexts, and their impact on wellbeing and sustainability" It also specifically refers to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Two of the objectives for the DEI,Social Justice category are:
analyze the role that complex networks of social structures and systems play in the creation and perpetuation of the dynamics of power, privilege, oppression, and opportunity; and
apply the principles of rights, access, equity, and autonomous participation to past, current, or future social justice action.
