A brief description of how the employee educators are selected (1st program):

Coordinators are faculty and staff who are interested in sustainability and help to communicate and implement intiatives and policies. Coordinators are selected in two ways: 1. Self selection, 2. Nominated by their peer/supervisor to represent their office. A solicitation for nominations are sent out by the office of environmental sustainability.


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive (1st program):

Coordinators attend a one hour training session and the monthly meetings to be considered active members. The training session is conducted by the Director of Environmental Sustainability and covers all aspects of sustainability including; current and past initiatives, state mandates and data on sustainability metrics.


A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

An inaugural class of 25 people were trained and serve as sustainability coordinators for their office. Coordinators meet monthly during the academic year to discuss campus operations. Coordinators communicate initiatives to the campus population and assist in the implementation of large scale university efforts such as Earth Day and the energy campaign. In addition, the coordinators go on an annual field trip to view sustainable practices in the campus area. Field trip locations have included a single stream recycling facility and an urban composting/sustainability center.
