The strategic plan discusses the University's commitment to research in Atmospheric and Environmental Science, Regional Planning, and in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Policy, to greening the campus with LEED-certified new construction, campus recycling and energy reduction programs, and to reduce
transportation greenhouse gases.

The university is committed to community building, and cultural development and preservation. The university is also dedicated to making an impact on the community through community service. Not only is the university dedicated to working with the current community, it is working to develop the next generation of community leaders in politics, healthcare, culture, and education among others.

The university addresses economic sustainability in multiple ways: protecting our financial markets in partnership with regulators and market participants to improve the safety, stability, and competitiveness of our nation’s financial market, doing the research on econometrics, economic forecasting, urban planning and policy, financial market regulation, technology development and commercialization,
entrepreneurship, informing health policy through research and analysis, including studies in key reformrelated areas such as the patient-centered medical home, primary care delivery, health workforce planning, comparative effectiveness, long-term care, health disparities, payment
reform, bioethics, and chronic disease prevention, promoting entrepreneurship and economic development in the Capital Region, throughout New York and beyond, and developing new and successful education systems.
