Tree distribution

A brief description of the campaign:
On May 11, 2022, Université TÉLUQ gave out free saplings to employees and students as part of Tree and Forest Month. This initiative was carried out by Université TÉLUQ in collaboration with the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs (Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks). The self-service distribution of the trees took place in the Quebec City and Montreal offices. Different species of trees were available on site and identified as deciduous, coniferous, etc. This initiative encouraged greening. The presence of vegetation helps fight climate change and prevents heat islands.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
All employees and students were notified of the date and schedule of the tree distribution, and were instructed to take a maximum of three trees per person. They were also invited to consult the “Importance of choosing the right tree or shrub” section of the Hydro-Quebec website for advice on how to make the right choice and to learn more about the environmental benefits of this distribution. Finally, all the trees provided for the event—200 in Quebec City and 100 in Montreal—were distributed to the TÉLUQ community.

Exhibition NOUS

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Implemented by Normand Landry, a professor in the Université TÉLUQ Department of Humanities, Letters and Communication and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Media Education and Human Rights, the exhibition entitled NOUS: Portraits de l’assistance sociale aims to deconstruct prejudices about people on social assistance. This travelling exhibition is being presented across Quebec between 2022 and 2025. From January 11 to 27, 2023, the NOUS exhibition was hosted at Université TÉLUQ in Quebec City and employees were invited to view the exhibit during this period. Professor Landry was on site on January 11 to speak with visiting employees.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
This exhibition ultimately invites us to question our collective relationship to poverty. It raises visitors’ awareness of the little-known realities of social assistance, of Quebecers’ perceptions of it, and it enables them to learn more about the history and nature of social assistance programs in Quebec. Approximately 2,200 people have seen the exhibit to date, and some 50 employees viewed the exhibit on January 11 at Université TÉLUQ.
The exhibition has been seen by many community groups working with people experiencing poverty, and many groups of people experiencing poverty have seen their stories and perspectives reflected in the exhibition.
In Montreal, joint guided tours with people living in poverty had a strong impact on the general public and on the guides themselves, who found the experience transformative and very beneficial.
The exhibition also provided a venue for meetings with government officials, academics, and community groups. Exclusive events have been organized just for people living in poverty and on social assistance.
Overall, the feedback was very positive, and there were reports of changes in perception of social assistance programs and their providers.
