Has the institution conducted a GHG emissions inventory within the previous three years that includes all Scope 1 and 2 emissions? :
Yes

A copy of the most recent GHG emissions inventory:
A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:

Université Laval compiles data on its GHG emissions using its Greenhouse Gas Protocol (based on recognized international standards for calculating and classifying greenhouse gases, such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and ISO 14064-1:2018).

Scope 1 and scope 2 emissions are the result of operations for which Université Laval is directly or indirectly responsible. Since the university has full responsibility for choosing the methods and equipment used in such operations, it is fully accountable for related greenhouse gas emissions. These are the emissions that Université Laval must offset to achieve and maintain campus carbon neutrality.

The scope 3 are inventoried every 3 years. You can see the last scope 3 inventory here (see pages 28-29) : https://www.ulaval.ca/sites/default/files/DD/PDF/Bilans_GES/BilanGES-2018-2019.pdf.

Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
Yes

A brief description of the GHG inventory verification process:

Yes. GHG emissions inventories are verified by an independent, external third party every 5 years. 2014-2015 GHG assessment and 2019-2020 GHG assessment have been verified by an independent, external third party. https://www.ulaval.ca/sites/default/files/DD/PDF/Bilans_GES/BilanGES-2019-2020-Avis-BNQ.pdf

Documentation to support the GHG inventory verification process:
Gross Scope 1 GHG emissions, performance year:
Weight in MTCO2e
Stationary combustion 21,161.20 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Other sources (mobile combustion, process emissions, fugitive emissions) 582.40 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Total gross Scope 1 GHG emissions, performance year:
21,743.60 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions, performance year (market-based):
Weight in MTCO2e
Imported electricity 263 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Imported thermal energy 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Total gross Scope 2 GHG emissions, performance year:
263 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Gross GHG emissions from biogenic sources, performance year:
0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Does the GHG emissions inventory include Scope 3 emissions from the following sources?:
Yes or No Weight in MTCO2e
Business travel Yes 3,863.80 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Commuting Yes 8,334 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Purchased goods and services Yes 336.60 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Capital goods --- ---
Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or Scope 2 Yes 116 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Waste generated in operations Yes 169.80 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Other sources Yes 1,280 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Total Scope 3 GHG emissions, performance year:
14,100.20 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

A brief description of how the institution accounted for its Scope 3 emissions:

Université Laval compiles data on its GHG emissions using its Greenhouse Gas Protocol (based on recognized international standards for calculating and classifying greenhouse gases, such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and ISO 14064-1:2018). For scope 3 emissions, Université Laval also refer to the WRI Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

The Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchases goods and services only include the purchase of papers.

The Scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel and energy related activities not included in Scope 1 or 2 only include emissions from transportation of good.

The Scope 3 GHG emissions from other sources not included in Scope 1 or 2 include :
o Scope 3 GHG emissions from incoming student mobility = 305 MTCO2e
o Scope 3 GHG emissions from incoming staff mobility = 18,3 MTCO2e
o Scope 3 GHG emissions from outgoing student mobility (MTCO2e) = 956,9 MTCO2e

The scope 3 are inventoried every 3 years. You can see the last scope 3 inventory here (see pages 28-29) : https://www.ulaval.ca/sites/default/files/DD/PDF/Bilans_GES/BilanGES-2018-2019.pdf.
