Bacchalor in Natural sciences applied to the environment

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

This program aims above all to offer: (1) a training in natural sciences that can be applied in the resolution of environmental problems and generate a move towards more environmentally friendly practices; and (2) specific training in environmental sciences, allowing students to take a global view of environmental issues and the interrelationships between the components of natural environments, as well as to develop a capacity for innovation in the face of these issues. The objectives are:

- Develop a systemic understanding of environmental issues and the interrelationships between the components of natural environments;
- Know the general natural dynamics and the impact of disturbances linked to human activities;
- Acquire disciplinary training in natural sciences that can be used in the analysis of environmental issues;
- Introduce the concepts of governance and environmental policies;
- Develop appropriate practical skills and abilities through individual and group learning activities.

At the end of the program, the student will have acquired certain skills allowing him to act as a specialist in the face of one or other of the many current environmental issues or to continue his learning of multidisciplinarity through studies at graduate studies in natural or environmental sciences. The skills targeted are as follows:

- Communication skills
- Ability to adapt to technological change
- Disciplinary skills oriented towards problem solving
- Knowledge of sustainable development
- Interdisciplinary thinking

Bachelor of Biology in Problem-Based Learning

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

This program revolves around the biology of the environment and biodiversity. During the first two years, the student acquires knowledge about living beings and their diversity; the different levels of organization, from the molecule to the ecosystem; and environmental interactions of an abiotic and biotic nature. The third year allows a specialization in one of the following three profiles: molecular biology and biotechnology; ecology; and toxicology and environmental health.

Biology training gives access to different fields - pharmaceutical, biomedical, biotechnology, agrifood or environmental - as well as very diverse work environments, ranging from natural environments to industrial laboratories, including ministries and educational institutions. .

Bachelor of Environmental Design

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

The design of the environment is a field of studies and interventions that covers the broad register of what makes up our material culture, ranging from the design of everyday objects to that of interior and exterior spaces and of the built places that form our environment.

This program is based on a definition of environmental design as an integrated approach to the design project, relating the scales of the object, architecture and territory. The main objective is the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and know-how specific to the design of the environment. It aims to train versatile designers with the basic knowledge necessary for the production of various design projects. This training promotes autonomy, open-mindedness and the development of a critical approach to the challenges of design. Concrete projects relating design and the needs of society are planned in the program in order to confront students directly with the social, cultural and environmental impacts of their interventions.

This program allows its graduates to devote themselves to the practice of environmental design within agencies, companies, institutions, or as self-employed workers. It also allows them to give themselves, by the selection of their elective courses, the training preparing them for a second multidisciplinary cycle such as the master's program in environmental design or to prepare for the study of a practice. disciplinary within the framework of a second specialized cycle.

Does the institution offer one or more sustainability-focused minors or concentrations for undergraduate students?:
Yes

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate minor or concentration:
Minor in Ecology

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

The program aims to provide basic training in the field of ecology, by acquiring the notions of biology necessary for understanding the dynamics of ecosystems and by access to scientific work devoted to ecology and to the organic production.

The courses allow, depending on the case, learning the main techniques used in terrestrial, aquatic or agro-food ecology and a study of the links between organic production and the exploited ecosystem. The two-week Field Method in Ecology course takes place at the La Huardière ecological station in Saint-Michel-des-Saints.

The program is aimed at those who, already engaged in the labor market, wish to acquire knowledge in ecology for professional or cultural reasons, as well as those who want to get involved in the rational use and conservation of resources. renewable.

Minor in environmental sciences

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (2nd program):

The program aims to provide environmental education more specifically related to aspects of the physical sciences. The program offers students the opportunity to: acquire a variety of knowledge allowing them to establish interrelationships between the various disciplines involved in solving an environmental problem; to acquire, depending on their previous preparation, either additional vocational training or an introduction to this field of knowledge; make a contribution to the development of society through their involvement in the environment and their understanding of the problems specific to the impacts of human activity on the environment.

Minor in Sustainable Energy Resources

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (3rd program):

This certificate is intended for people interested in energy and environmental issues; in particular the questions of healthy buildings and energy management (energy efficiency, energy saving and protection of the environment and human health in a perspective of local autonomy and the use of "appropriate" technologies between). We target topics specific to residential housing and small commercial buildings. The certificate therefore aims at the development of a general culture and professional improvement in the field of energy and more specifically of renewable energy resources and healthy building.

At the end of this program the student will be able to:
1- demonstrate general knowledge of the energy sector as well as its repercussions on the environment and human health;
2- interpret, synthesize and comment on information on the energy sector;
3- develop a critical mind in the face of various arguments and issues affecting the energy and environment sector;
4- to master the language specific to the field of energy, to be able to produce a coherent and relevant speech and to articulate it in a precise, clear and concise way, both in writing and orally and, thus be able to communicate his knowledge in his professional or scientific environment and in society as a whole.
