The Université de Sherbrooke’s Sustainable Investment Committee is an advisory and coordination committee that includes members from the University’s higher management, representatives from the University’s Pension Plan (RRUS), from the University’s Foundation (FUS), student representatives and two faculty experts.

THE COMMITTEE’S MANDATES ARE TO:

- Receive and study the concerns of the university community regarding sustainable investment (internal monitoring)

- Monitor trends and innovations in the field of sustainable investment and provide relevant and emerging information to the University’s Executives, to representatives from the University’s Pension Plan (RRUS), and to those from the University’s Foundation (FUS)

- Raise awareness among the university community on sustainable investment practices based on the committee's work and the expertise of researchers and students in the field

- Act as a facilitator with the RRUS and FUS for the evaluation of sustainable investment approaches

- Coordinate the implementation of the plan, ensure its follow-up, and update it when required

Examples of CIR actions during the previous three years:

HERE ARE SOME OF THE COMMITTEE'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS CARRIED OUT SINCE 2019:

- The committe continues to hold a minimum of 2 meetings per year.

- By the end of 2022, the Foundation expects to be 100% divested from oil.

- By the end of 2022, the Foundation will have implemented a Stewardship policy that covers proxy voting, corporate engagement and ESG performance disclosure.

- Commitment to deploy a net zero carbon 2050 protocol for portfolios related to the University of Sherbrooke.

- The University secured a full-time ESG Research Analyst.

- The University Employees' Pension Plan secured the access to the Sustainalytics ESG and carbone measures data.

- In 2022, the Desjardins Chair in Responsible Finance managed to come up with the first annual ESG and Carbone intensity measurements for the Foundation and Employees' Pension Plan equities portfolios.

- The Foundation is looking after having its fund in compliance with fully "impact- aligned" investments for 2023.

- The University Employees' Pension Plan is PRI — which is supported by the UN — signatory since 2020 (as became the University's Foundation in 2019).

- A student fund is being managed for the Foundation and will provide its first ESG policy framework.

- In 2022, a few events on the topic of Sustainable Investment were held on the Main Campus (for the entire community).
