In the case of Uruguay, the minimum hourly wage for an adult is $2.7 per hour. For students employed by the university as interns, their wages are 100% above this value. Additionally, the university has students who could be hired as entry-level instructors, but they must be advanced students to qualify for these positions. In the case of teaching roles, all also receive wages above this value.
Clarification Note
According to information from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Uruguay, as of January 1, 2024, the new National Minimum Wage is set at $22,268 UYU (Uruguayan pesos) per month. To determine the hourly wage, this amount is divided by 200, as established by the Executive Branch decree of December 29, 2023. Information available at:
