In 2020 through the creation of the Smart Campus Group an initial fund was enabled through the Dean of Research to sponsor campus sustainability projects. The projects where proposed by the group members and the three best ranked were awarded fund. The objective is to maintain the funding for the project's continuation for the following years and carry out additional project calls.

The smart campus group, comprised of a multidisciplinary team of faculty, operations and campus authorities are responsible for evaluating the project proposals and selecting the winning projects for award.
