A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
USFQ was selected in an open city-wide call to represent the academy at the Metropolitan Council of Social Responsibility (CMRS) for the term 2019-2022.
CMRS is a multidisciplinary and inter-institutional platform hosted by the City of Quito to promote sustainable practices in the city in articulation with the Municipality of Quito and its authorities. The council is conformed by leaders in sectors such as the Ministry of Environment, NGOs dedicated to sustainability, businesses, city councilman and the city's environment secretariat.
USFQ has formally delegated a member of the Innovation and Sustainability Office to participate in the committee.
One of the activities pursued during the reporting period has been the reform of ordinance N°0084 to generate an ordinance that delimits Quito as a sustainable city. The policy had been under review and discussion by all members of the committee with the aim of promoting a legislation that further drives the city's commitments and incentives for sustainable practices.

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:
USFQ collaborates with the Galapagos Council of Government (GCG) currently as members of the Innovation Hub, a support space for the (GCG) to make decisions regarding issues of local interest. USFQ acts as an advisor for key Galapagos issues such as tourism, conservation, health, etc.
USFQ developed a review of the evolution of tourism and its economic and ecological impact in Galapagos and based on the results, USFQ endorsed the establishment of provincial policies to limit the number of visitors and tourism activities in the islands to ensure its conservation.

During the reporting period, Valeria Ochoa, Vice Dean of the Polytechnic School and Daniela Flor professor of Environmental Engineering, with the support from USFQs rectorate, participated as advisors in the National Assembly for the review and advocacy of the Draft Law to Prevent and Reduce Food Loss. Through their participation, the university supported a Draft Law to Prevent and Reduce Food Loss

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the international level:
USFQ promoted the creation of an international marine protection corridor, through research carried out by Professor Alex Hearn and an international team of scientists in the Galápagos Islands of the Coco-Galápagos Migravía, or Migration-way. The research work and findings prompted a joint pledge at the COP26 climate in Glasgow, Scotland, by the presidents of Panamá, Colombia, Costa Rica and Ecuador to create the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor.
