During the reporting period, the Unity College president officially assigned a liaison to the Economic Development Committee for the town of Unity. The liaison was a voting member of the EDC, a committee that works towards sustainable economic development. The Unity liaison advocated for distribution of tax funds to support market development of the rural town, to support new business development through a grant program, and advocated for converting street lights to efficient LEDs.

In November, 2015, President Khoury signed on to support the American Campuses Act on Climate (ACAC), a White House initiative to amplify the voice of the higher-ed community in support of a strong international climate agreement in the United Nations COP21 climate negotiations in Paris. In the fall of 2016, President Khoury signed on to the We Are Still In campaign, to "demonstrate America’s enduring commitment to delivering on the promise of the Paris Agreement and America’s contribution to it." In addition, Dr. Khoury is in the Carbon Pricing Leadership Circle as a signatory to the Put a Price On It campaign.
