All students must complete the "Environmental Citizen" core of classes which deals with various environmental and sustainability issues and how they relate to the students. Our Environmental Citizen Learning Outcomes include three primary components, or spheres: Individual, Community, & Environment. The first learning outcome centers on the individual. After completing our Environmental Citizen Curriculum, students will become resourceful individuals—displaying integrity, effective communication and reasoning skills, and a dedication to sustainability and learning. The second learning outcome branches out from the individual to the community. It focuses on the transformation of students into engaged citizens and leaders who welcome diversity, work well with others, respect tradition and differing points of view, and help encourage a productive, communal way of life. The third learning outcome emphasizes the environment and teaching our students to become environmentally informed individuals prepared to succeed in their chosen fields. Such individuals will have both an extensive knowledge of the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, as well as an understanding of how these disciplines connect to and inform environmental issues.
