A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:
Unity College has a robust recycling and compost program that employs a full-time, year round recycling coordinator and seven student workers. In addition to daily recycling and compost collection, salvage programs divert waste for donation and reuse at the end of each semester.
Though we lack a more sophisticated tracking system for wasted diversion, audits in our recycling program this past year revealed a recycling rate of about 30%.
The "diverted" rate reported here assumes a 30% diversion of qualifying waste given the 62 tons of landfill waste generated.
