Through consultation, regulation, education and collaboration, the Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO) and our Committee on Equal Opportunity and Diversity (CEOD) are catalysts for building an inclusive academic health sciences center comprised of a diverse faculty, staff and student body who possess the cultural competencies necessary to serve the people of the commonwealth and the world.

DIO provides in-person sessions, trainings, and workshop on enhancing cultural competence, particularly developing the skill sets to effectively manage a diverse population and to ensure a more comprehensive research agenda. In our education sessions, we explore topics of stereotyping in medicine, unconscious bias, and cultural humility. Students also participate in a course on the Social Determinants of Health focused on health equity: providing greater healthcare access, practicing inclusive healthcare delivery models and learning the factors that affect treatment outcomes.
