UMass Medical School is a public medical school located in Worcester, Massachusetts. It is part of the University of Massachusetts (UMass) system. It is an all graduate research university that supports learning, biomedical research, and healthcare through its three schools and research initiatives: the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Graduate School of Nursing, and a range of biomedical research enterprise and public-service initiatives throughout the state.
UMMS is affiliated and shares its main campus with the non-profit hospital, UMass Memorial Health Care, including the 17.5 MW combined heat and power plant which provides utilities to the main campus.
Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:

To remain consistent with other GHG inventories and reporting by UMMS, this STARS report UMMS, only includes scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions, and data/metrics from the
"main campus" and not from any satellite campuses.
The "main campus" is defined as buildings connected to the combined heat and power central plant including both UMMS owned and operated buildings, as well as owned by UMMS but occupied by the affiliated hospital and other partners. This includes ASC, LRB, Main School Building, Hospital, Lakeside, Benedict, and ACC. While UMMS does not have complete operational control of the Hospital it shares the main campus and Central Plant, so the GHG emissions include Hospital properties on the main campus where utilities are served by the Central Plant are included in the STARS report. Due to the lack of a baseline to date for UMMS satellite properties, these properties have been excluded from the STARS report, even though the University operationally manages them.
When UMMS revises its data collection, analyzing, and goal setting of both its GHG emission and sustainability initiatives, the University will revisit where and how to draw the boundaries for operations, planning, engagement, academics, and research.
