A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:
GHG emissions associated with the campus are calculated using the Clean Air Cool Plant Campus Carbon calculator. These emissions are reported the ACUPCC as part of the President's Climate Commitment.
Additionally, GHG emissions associated with Power Plant operations are reported annually to MassDEP and are required to be verified by a 3rd party ever three years
None
Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the internal and/or external verification process:
As required by MassDEP, UMass Medical School submits stationary "direct stack" source emissions through the Climate Registry Information System (CRIS) on a annual basis using the Climate Registry’s General Reporting Protocol (GRP). This information is verified by a third party on a triennial basis as required.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives, including efforts made during the previous three years:
One of the major initiatives which reduced GHG emissions was the expansion on the Power Plant. In 2012 the medical school completed a significant expansion and upgrade of the central plant that included the installation of a high-efficiency, 7.5-megawatt, gas-fired combustion turbine and an associated heat recovery system. Additionally, retro-commissioning activities, HVAC and fume hood retrofits, as well as lighting retrofit have all help to reduce energy consumption and therefore GHG emissions.
Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Most resent GHG report submitted to ACUPCC was for FY2014
