The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) would like to submit the “Doing My Part for Growing Green” employee education campaign for consideration for a STARS Innovation Credit. UMMS is proud of the operational and administrative work towards sustainability and recognize that the actions of the community also have a major impact on UMMS’s overall carbon footprint. Therefore at this year’s (2012) annual UMMS Earth Day event, a new behavioral change campaign was launched called Doing My Part for Growing Green. The goal of this campaign is to encourage faculty, staff and students to recycle, turn off electronics and lights and undertake other behaviors that have an impact on the campus energy usage and waste reduction efforts. This multifaceted campaign includes the following: 1. Doing my Part Pledge which encourages staff to take five actions including recycling and taking part in energy reductions. Faculty, staff and students can take the pledge electronically through a web site and receive a printed pledge card to remind them in their workspace. To-date, nearly 400 people have taken this pledge. 2. Video series which features various staff discussing how they “do their part” here at UMMS and at home. Updated Growing Green signage that references several of the actions in the Doing my Part Pledge has been posted in the main School Building. 4. Promotion by the UMMS Green Representatives, a volunteer group of employees, faculty and students who assist the UMMS Sustainability Committee and are committed to advancing sustainability on campus.
