The Joyce Cummings Center (150,000 sf) finished construction in fall 2021. It was built with a target EUI of 50 kbtu/sf. There were water efficiency targets in the construction as well. https://provost.tufts.edu/joyce-cummings-center/

Since the Decarbonization Report was published in 2020, Tufts has a target EUI for all building renovations and new construction, as well as water efficiency targets.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

In new construction, we are installing air source heat pumps to work in concert with our central energy plant that creates steam, which is converted to hot water at the building. We are installing heat recovery chillers in existing buildings in order to increase the efficiency of our heating/cooling equipment. We are currently planning the design and installation of new hot water pipes for the upper campus to start the transformation from steam to hot water.

Tufts aims to lower our EUI and our goal is to be near net zero.
