Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with an energy management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the energy management or benchmarking program:

The university has invested in a utility bill management software that process 7000 bills and looks for anomalies and deviations that are investigated by the facilities teams to determine if there are opportunities to reduce waste and costs. The business operations team has created a Tableau based tool of our energy intensity based on utility bill meter data and the buildings physical address to begin to understand how and where we use the most energy

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with a water management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:

Tufts has broadened the analytics, accountability and transparency in its energy management program, which includes water management. We currently collect historical water consumption by building and by campus and use that as baseline to monitor and compare usage (Example of YoY water consumption report is attached). We are in the early stage of researching EnergyStar and other resources to develop an industry standard for water benchmarking.

Tufts invested in EnelX utility bill management software a few years ago. This software identifies anomalies that cannot be detected by a plumber visiting and/or leaking equipment, which helps pinpoint water loss and excessive water costs. For example, if water usage has doubled this month compared to the same period last year, Tufts operations receive a water usage anomaly notification by email. Then, we analyze various factors that can lead to this deviation. In this initial investigation round, we look at current and previous occupancy usage, building status, seasonality, vacancy, site modification, billing accuracy and other causes. If initial investigation doesn’t yield a result, we communicate with respective departments for further investigation. Corrective actions/adjustments/improvements are implemented accordingly, and reports are sent out to campus managers periodically. In addition, the utility management software also interfaces with other system like Tableau to create visualization dashboards.
