A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Quest: Incoming first years in the class of 2027 had the opportunity to start their Trinity College journey with a wilderness adventure on Quest, Trinity’s extended pre-orientation on the Appalachian Trail (the “AT”).
For 15 summers, Trinity College has been proud to offer the Quest Leadership & Pre-Orientation Program. Few colleges or universities offer an extended wilderness adventure comparable to Quest. The program’s philosophy encourages participants to take on new challenges and responsibilities, meet other Trinity students, and transition into college.
PRIDE(Promoting Respect for Inclusive Diversity in Education): The P.R.I.D.E. Welcome Weekend is a three-day pre-orientation program that helps international students and students of color become acquainted with Trinity’s physical and social atmosphere. Students participate in fun activities, meet with Trinity faculty and administrators, and take a walking tour of Hartford to familiarize them with the city.
This year there was an orientation program focused on sustainability, both on campus and in the city of Hartford as well. Students will learn about on-campus resources like the pollinator garden, campus thrift store, composting program, etc. and off-campus resources like the CT Transit bus system, Bushnell Park Conservancy, Riverfront Recapture, and more.
