Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The last literacy assessment was sent to a random sample of 200 students and a random sample of faculty and staff in the spring of 2011. Questions were selected to cover knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors on a variety of sustainability-related topics. There were also general questions about sustainability. One of the most shocking results was that students didn't understand the hierarchy of reduce, reuse, recycle. They thought they were all equally positive actions. (This held true for faculty and staff as well.) The literacy assessment has been updated and will be sent to a similar random sample of students, faculty, and staff in the spring of 2015. It is recommended that this survey continue to be conducted every four years across the student body to see the results of a different body each time it is administered in order to understand where we are excelling and falling behind in integrating sustainable knowledge and habits into the University's students, faculty, and staff.
