The Sustainability Office gets to present an overview of sustainability initiatives to incoming students through a presentation to the incoming class. the first part of the presentation is lecture based. The second part involves breaking into small groups, asking the students for feedback on what they would like to happen at Transylvania in the time they are here. The last part of the presentation consists of the small groups presenting to the whole group, with the sustainability director and/or student staff members responding to those suggestions.

First year students have a month-long orientation to campus called August term. There are several sustainability events sprinkled throughout the month, including bike trips, bus tours, sustainability tours of campus, community service events related to sustainability, and more.
